Purge the Old

It is not always easy to purge the old and bring in the new when designing a room. Rather than looking at your child’s room and feeling overwhelmed by having to start over, simply take three of your favorite items and build around those items. A picture, a comforter, a rug. Then slowly purge those things that will not travel into each season with your child.  Purge those things that do not match or make sense.  Stand in the doorway of your room and ask yourself what are the first few items you love and want to build on.

I am the worst at this kind of process. I am a designer, for me you might think it’s easy, but I am emotionally attached to many things in each of my kid’s rooms, so I implement this same process and slowly work around those things I love, my kids love and create rooms that make sense, they love, and can grow from one season to the next.  Enjoy yourself when you Purge the Old!
