Give Away Update

We are in the last couple of days of our first Free Give Away.  We are not sure if this is how you go about a give away on the web, but what we do know is someone is going to win. The odds are very good because we know so few people that anyone who comes will have great odds.

In these next couple of days please visit here:   http://hungouttobuy.com/2012/03/25/free-give-away/

Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues…
Dawn and I have really been busy working on our business.  We are enjoying getting to know so many of you through social media.  We are not ashamed to say that we are brand new, and I mean just barely out of that painful birth canal kind of new into our web business.

We have grabbed hold of the coat tails of many social media guru’s out there.  Visit their websites and follow them on Twitter. Tim Lorang @Image_Media http://www.imagemediapartners.com/.  This guy spent two hours on the phone with me explaining the technical parts of Social Media.  Jamie Crager @JamieCrager http://crowdshifter.com/ Jamie posts all kinds of great links around Social Media. He was also nice enough to read one of my blogs and provide feedback and point out my typos.  Robert Caruso @fondalo  http://www.bundlepost.com/ is a local for us.  He too posts all kinds of links, writes his own blogs and really has the best social media graphic for each day.

I am a reading and following groupie.  Clicking and reading just about everything they are putting out there. Dawn and I are linking each other to great reads and then discussing our approach. Seriously, go and grab onto to these three dudes and their coat tails. Guys who know A LOT more than we do.

The small reality is that I, Elizabeth have never found sitting at a computer very enjoyable.  You see, in all this computer stuff I am doing a lot of sitting.  I have computer ADD and my mind wanders.  As a matter of fact, I have so much computer ADD, that I recently found myself in the bathroom, buck naked (which is quite appropriate since that is how we all come into this world, in our case the world wide web!).  Sitting at my desk, reading articles, having thoughts on writing a blog, and 20 seconds later standing on a scale with just my glasses on, and wondering how many ounces they would add to the scale.  Thinking about sitting, and all these thoughts about how inactive I have been, launched without any thought, my trip into the bathroom. I am happy to report that the scale had good news.

I have even resorted to eating lunch at my desk.
Today: Scrambled Eggs, Spinach, Bacon, Salsa

Our story is much like any young entrepreneurial company.  Excitedly determined, hardworking, and ready to take on the challenges of the day.   The only difference is we are not so new in our concepts, our designs, and our experiences.  We have over 20 years of experience in the design world. Especially specializing in kids rooms.  Those experiences came in real face to face time, real show rooms, real warehouses, and real stock rooms.  I like sharing our story. Dawn, she is a bit more private than I am, and I love her for that. She keeps my impulses and free spirit soaring in the right direction.  As our story unfolds, you who are beginning with us, can watch our progress.  So together, we share some of the behind the scenes as our story continues.

I have been on the edge of laughing really hard today.  Dawn and I prepared some of our “sets” for a photo shoot.  Living in the NW we have few sunny days. The name,  “Hung Out To Buy,” was birthed out of a long walk Dawn and I took last fall. We saw scenery that was begging to have our pretty things hung on. Old fences and flower gardens with clotheslines.  We had visions for our photo shoots.  Well, our reality is so very different. It just will not stop raining long enough for those kinds of shoots. We have inventory we would like to start moving onto our website, so we have made a room in my home our official workroom.

I called my husband to inform him that his sleep space might be a little girly, but don’t worry it will all be moved before he slumbers tonight.  As I look around I think we have truly given new meaning to our company name, “Hung Out To Buy” because there is a ton of stuff hanging around. I know it’s a little premature, but really it’s worth laughing along with us. Here are some pictures of our reality. Our work room, our warehouse, our stock room.  Our website is our showroom, and hopefully by the time a picture makes it on the web we have cleaned up our act a little bit.

Enjoy some of these pictures…as our story continues.

We have ordered plenty of lamps.
Now to decide which make the next
Photo Shoot

Dawn irons out all the ruffles & wrinkles.

It's as if they are asking, "Is it our turn yet."

Dear Lovely Husband, Thanks for giving up your reading chair.

We all have stories to share. What are some of your stories? If you have a favorite one that tells your story, feel free to link inside your comment so we can read about you, and share with others.  Happy Day Everyone! Dawn & Elizabeth

“Featured Favorite”

“Featured Favorite”

We have a new TAB called “Featured Favorites” which will showcase items we are bringing in for kids rooms.  Each “featured favorite” piece displayed will be for sale.

She is a kindergarten teacher by day, and a seamstress by night.  In her collection of throw blankets, I found the perfect one to coordinate with our “Simply Sabrina” collection. A collection perfect for your kid’s room.  I love how the larger polka dots play off the bedding in the back ground of these two pictures.  All kids love frogs.  These cute little frog faces jumped out at me.  Take a look for yourself.  Wouldn’t this “Featured Favorite” look terrific in your child’s room?

This teacher, Mrs Helton, loves children.  How do I know this? Every day she loves one of my own.  I am so grateful to not only find some great throws, but to support our teacher by beginning to sell her products through our website.  More of her throws will be coming soon.

If you have a special gift that is handmade, and would like to be considered as our “featured favorite”, please drop us an email or go to our Contact page listed below.  Maybe we can feature you.

Be sure to click here if you have not yet entered our”FREE GIVE AWAY EVENT”.

Orders can be placed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through our email service.  In return we will email you an invoice specific to your order.  You will them submit your payment to our Pay Pal account indicated on your invoice.  Be sure to read our Purchase Policy before placing your order through our email. “Blue Posies & Plaid”

“Blue Posies & Plaid”.

We just put up another collection.  Click and take a peek.  Featuring some of our Loved Before bedding accents.  What does Loved Before mean? It’s basically saying that a child has enjoyed this, used this, and loved this before. They have since grown up and out and now you get that same designer look, without the designer price.  Loved Before is something we take pride in.  Why?  We know times can be tough.  We know that us gals still love pretty things and want pretty things for our little people. So we have added to our new collections, a Loved Before collection.  If you are looking at a collection, and it’s noted “Loved Before”,  you know two things. One, Hung Out To Buy found an amazing set, and two, we are passing it along to you.  Our accessories and design accents are going to be brand new.  We have breathed new life into this Loved Before collection.

Starting with a few accent pillows.  Design accents and the bedding to follow in the next few days.  We just wanted to get you in on our progress.

Happy Day,

Dawn & Elizabeth

Beginning To Tell Our Story

Beginning to tell our story starts with our realities  here at Hung Out To Buy.  We are two very creative, easily entertained, and inspired shop owners of this soon to be, pages filled,  custom boutique for kid’s bedroom fashions.  Today in the “shop” we started over with shooting our pictures.  We spent 8 hours last week on one room, and after pinning and posting pictures, we realized we did not LOVE  how they turned out. So, back to trying to tell our story with pictures.  We could hire a photographer, with years of experience, spending our self-funded limited funds.  Or we could invest in our own fancy camera, which we did, and shoot our own pictures.

I, Elizabeth, am writing this blog post.  I have only been told once in my life that I can take fabulous pictures. It happened one day last summer.  Spending a lovely afternoon on the Oregon coast.  Stunning sunshine, warm breeze and the kids all over the beach. One problem… I forgot my glasses. (since that beach event I am now carrying extra’s).  I brought my camera, but could not see what I was shooting. It was just aim, shoot, and hope for the best.  Later that evening I loaded the pictures onto Facebook and my daughter immediately let me know that the pictures were my BEST work!  Apparently if I am blind as a bat I can shoot a picture.

Enter Dawn, my amazing and gifted partner. Her new fancy camera, my designer’s eye and away we went today.  Together, adding, taking away,  and changing things up.  Her creative brain against mine. What a team.  We shot two full rooms today and will soon have all other pictures replaced.  This one picture I have pinned, tweeted a few times and realize how easily pleased I am.  Within  the next two weeks we hope to have all the bedding beautifully displayed.  We will also be adding our “used & renewed” products too.  I had to take a break from a busy day and show this one shot that begins to tell our story.

What one picture tells your story?

What About This?

What About This?

What about this?

Move all your kids into one room and free up that precious real estate in your home. I know my boys would not be in favor of that. Just the question would have them making faces. I have no idea what the sleeping arrangements are at your house, but I could sure use one of these. Currently, of my five children, four are living at home.  Every available room allows each child to have their own room.  As I wandered in the wee morning hours to check on each child, I began to ponder the idea of just bunking them all up.  The three boys anyway.  My one and only girl might not go for sharing with three boys, so she can stay put…or not.  She occupies the largest of the bedrooms. It would be some major room changing.  But, by putting all three boys in one room, just think of the decorating and designing I could do with the two extra rooms.

I have raised all my kids to be respectful of each others’ space. They each have their own private space. There they can be assured that their treasures, toys, books, and special things will not be taken or played with by another.  Is this a good thing?  When I was growing up I had a friend named Heidi.  She had nine sisters and brothers (more sisters).  They had a big room, and on two walls they had lined up:  bed, five-drawer chest, bed, five-drawer chest, etc. If my memory serves me right, there were a total of three beds and chests lined up on one wall and then the same on the opposite wall.

Why do we fashion rooms for our children as private quarters?  I personally LOVE having my own space and I believe that our children need that too. Especially after being in school with people all day, all my children find a their rooms to be a retreat.  I imagine in most cases we can afford the space.  I see that I can afford the space, but it’s at the cost of some valuable real estate.  I would love to have a guest room, a study room, a room that I have the option to think about how it might be used.  If I really had my way I would have one of these. (see below)  Then I would have four rooms and imagine if I wanted to take an early cross country trip. No one has to get out of bed!

The following picture would be my personal ideal. I love that each bed has its’ own light and some kind of shelf built in.  This frees up the floor for what…?  How do your kids sleep?  What about this kind of set up do you like? How many kids occupy your valuable real estate?  If you have some pictures to share of your space, link in the comment space below.

Whoooooo Loves Owls?

Whoooooo loves Owls?  After yesterday, I can say without a doubt that Dawn and I love owls.  We have worked on how we want our design to look and coordinate with our collections.  Something fun, whimsical, interesting, balanced and did I mention visually  fun.  So together, we started cutting, painting, and cutting again and finding all of the elements that make these guys part of your child’s room and very much part of our offering in our collections.

I know it is silly to give inanimate objects special names, but we did.   Each owl carries the name of the collection it is designed to go with.  We are offering two options for purchase.  (printed poster or Canvas in an 11″x14″ size.)   If you are interested in one of these pieces, send us an email and we will give you all the specifics.  We are not quite ready to start selling yet, just creating, designing and shall we say wisely placing some teasers for whooooo ever might be interested..Whoooooo Loves Owls?

Whooooooo is your favorite. Let us know your thoughts or email if you have any questions.
